Skillz Naija in-School intervention
Skillz Naija is a comprehensive coach-guide curriculum/toolkit focusing on building basic life skills that help children between the ages of 11-16 adopt healthy behaviours and live risk free by creating a simple but powerful connection between soccer and life skills. The program helps young people have relevant and important discussion about life, take small steps to achieve their goals, stay strong when faced with challenges and protect themselves and others from diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria.
The Skillz Naija program meaningfully engages young people and give them a safe platform to play football, have fun, learn healthy habits, personal development and important life skills and be educated about prevention of endemic diseases such as Malaria and HIV, using Grassroot Soccer’s Skillz Naija curriculum where soccer and its language as well as funny but engaging and educative games and catch-phrases are used to deliver the curriculum.
Delivered as both an in-school and out-of-school curriculum, over 50,000 young Nigerians have graduated from the program who have been equipped with relevant information to take healthy decisions, avoid risky behaviours and prevent themselves and others from diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, etc.
